About Our Pastor
Pastor H. Curtis Lyon attended Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown, WI, and then Northwestern College also in Watertown. He graduated from Northwestern with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in 1971 with a Master of Divinity degree. In 1986 he received a postgraduate Master of Systematic Theology degree. He served Christ the Vine Lutheran Church from 1996 until his retirement in 2013. Previously, he served Zion Lutheran Church in Torrance, CA, from 1971 to 1977. He then served Trinity Lutheran Church in Crete, IL, from 1977 to 1996. Pastor Lyon and his wife, Ann, were married in 1968. After their marriage, they served two vicar assignments, one in Alpine, CA, and a second at Trinity, Crete, IL. The Lyons have seven children, Katy Lyon Hennen, Wendy Lyon, Rachel Lyon Simiele, Kristin Lyon Adelmund, Julie Lyon Runde, Amanda Lyon Biondi, and Pastor Gregory Lyon. They have seventeen grandchildren.
After his retirement, Pastor Lyon has served several congregations, including Reformation, San Diego and St. John, Victorville. Presently Pastor Lyon has the privilege of serving Christ the Vine during the vacancy created when Pastor Derek Bartelt accepted a call to First Lutheran Church, Lake Geneva, WI. Pastor Bartelt served the congregation faithfully as his first assignment after graduation from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Christ the Vine is currently extending a call for its next shepherd, and we pray that God will soon lead the person of His choice to continue serving Christ the Vine with Word and Sacrament.
The Lyons have been richly blessed in innumerable ways as the Lord has kept them close to Him in the various places that Curt and Ann have been privileged to serve. Christ the Vine offers God's current blessing as God continues to keep them under His care. Our message to God is a prayer of thanksgiving. Our message to the members of Christ the Vine is also a prayer of thanksgiving for the blessing of being here to serve and to be served.
